Chapter Winner Gains More National Attention

on Thu, 08/14/2014 - 13:29

Hannah Hammel, Chapter Career Awards winner in 2014, was invited to play with and for Carol Wincenc at the National Flute Association meeting held in Chicago in early August.  Hannah was one of three finalists to compete in the Orchestral Excerpts and Masterclass Audition and she won first place! Ms. Wincenc was the lead judge at the NSAL National Convention in May when Hannah was selected for a masterclass (see separate News item - 2014 National Convention's Success: Our Chapter's Perspective).

Clearly Ms. Wincenc is pleased with Hannah's performance, and we are pleased to be part of launching her career as an exceptional musician!

Latest news is that the Kennedy Center Conservatory Project invites various conservatories to have a recital representing their school in their Millennium Theater. Oberlin has auditions every year for students to go play on our recital. Last year Hannah went with her chamber group and this year she auditioned and was chosen as a soloist. She will be playing Lowell Liebermann's Sonata for Flute and Piano on April 25th, 2015.
