NSAL En Pointe Ballet Competition in Boca Raton

on Thu, 06/15/2017 - 11:43

Pat Davis and Diana and Peter Freeman attended the finals of the En Pointe national ballet competition in Boca Raton Florida between May 31 and June 4, 2017. Our chapter finalist, Karen Fleming, is a High School Senior in Yorktown, Virginia. Karen will be attending the University of Richmond in the fall on a full tuition scholarship as a dance artist.

Karen won first prize of $1,000 at our chapter competiton and an expenses paid trip to compete in the finals. Although she was not placed she performed very creditably. Karen said "Thank you for allowing me to participate in the National En Pointe classical ballet competition. It was truly an incredible experience that I will never forget. I was honored to represent the VA/NC Chapter, and I hope that I made you proud! I learned so much; this opportunity was invaluable. Thank you yet again!"

Diana Freeman was the National co-chair of the competition. She was the liaison between Chapter Presidents and other competition chairpersons and fielded questions from the contestants and helped with the logistics of the event. We all had an opportunity to visit the Wick Theatre and Costume Museum and the world-famous Breakers Hotel at Palm Beach.

The awards were made at the Red Rose National Awards Gala held at the Royal Palm Yacht Club in Boca Raton. This was a magical evening organized by the Florida East Coast Chapter at which we were entertained by young artists from the local Lynn University, and Florida Atlantic University.
