Three Chapter Winners of Winston Scholarships

on Sat, 11/02/2013 - 13:31

All three submissions from our chapter for Winston scholarships were successful this year. We are particularly proud that the top prize of $2,000 for Visual Arts went to 18-years-old Megan Ward, for summer study in two dimensional portfolio development at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts, Richmond, VA.  In addition, Megan will be invited to attend the NSAL National Convention in May to be recognized personally for her achievement.

A second winner in the Visual Arts category was Ryan Johnson, aged 20.  Ryan was awarded $500 for study in lithograph techniques at Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Snowmass Village, Colorado.

Congratulations also go to Matthew White, 22, who has been awarded one of NSAL’s coveted Winston Scholarships for Voice.  Matthew hails from New Market, Virginia.  After attending Shenandoah Valley Academy, he studied at the New England Conservatory, followed by two years at Blue Ridge Community College.  After a period of private study, Matthew now hopes the scholarship prize of $900 will allow him to study with Michael Heaston at Washington Opera and with Mitchell Cirker in New York City.

We trust this NSAL funding will help these three talented young artists gain recognition at a national level.
