UNCSA Sweeps Prizes in Our Musical Theatre Competition

on Sat, 03/26/2016 - 13:08

The NSAL VA/NC Chapter recently held its annual Career Awards Competition.  This year's chosen discipline is Musical Theatre, which always makes for an exciting competition.  The nine contestants first participated in a mandatory dance call led by choreographer and judge Russell Jay in which, after a warm-up, they learned a dance routine and performed it.  In the afternoon they presented their six-minute auditions consisting of two songs and a monologue. The Chapter's top winner, Mary Mattison Vallery, will advance to the National Finals in Phoenix, AZ in May, where many prizes are awarded, including the top prize of $10,000.  The other two winners were Chessa Madison Metz (2nd prize) and Margaret Gaylord (3rd prize).  All three winners attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem and will be on hand to perform for the Chapter's last meeting of the year on April 10.
